The story of our family business.

In 1962, David John Manning, then aged 19, took his first steps in business and along with a friend, established a joinery business, at that time called G&M Supplies.  The business soon took off and before long David and his colleague were diversifying into shop-fits and the refurbishment and selling of second-hand furniture.

With success and growth behind them David Manning spotted an opportunity in Dunfermline which would take his business in a new direction.  The long-established Stevenson Auctioneers in Dunfermline ceased trading and soon the Manning family found themselves in the auction business when the newly established Dunfermline Auction Company trading in Gardner Street opened it's doors.

The 1980's saw a rapid period of expansion for the business, requiring two further moves, each time into larger property in Dunfermline.  It was also during this time that two of David's sons joined the organisation, both focusing on the original joinery side of the business with David joining in 1985 followed by youngest brother Kenneth in 1988.

In 1989 due to ill health, David Manning decided to take semi-retirement but continued to work from home and alongside his wife, managed the auctions and continued overseeing the whole operation.   It was while the company was working on a large liquidation job for a company in Bo'ness, that the family first considered moving the business South of the water.

In 1990 the Manning family purchased their first of what would be three Bo'ness premises in Links Court.  Eldest son Andrew came on board in 1991 after leaving college to focus on the auctions and in 1999 the business made it's move to it's current site at Carriden in Bo'ness.

The expansion of removals was as a direct result of customer requests for commercial and then domestic moves. Commercial customers requested that D.J. Manning undertake their move to new premises along with moving goods to storage and auction. With a clear need identified and initially through customer recommendations the removal business grew both for commercial and then domestic removals.  With the capability to move, store and sell goods, D.J. Manning was then well placed to provide customers with a unique service that simply made life easier while providing the best value for money.

Sadly in 2003, David Manning passed away leaving his three sons in charge of the business. The brothers formed a limited company with all three of them as Directors.  In the same year, the sons decided to increase the storage capacity from just over 50 boxes to over 600 storage containers in their purpose built warehouse facility.   The business continues to grow and develop but retains the same family values that have kept the business strong for 50 years.
